About "Wandering and Wondering"

John Maybury's "Wandering and Wondering" explores the four corners of the world—and the human mind. Read about interesting people, places, and ideas. Go wherever the wind blows—and enjoy the trip!

John Maybury discovered back in 7th grade that he had ink in his blood, when he was drafted to write and edit the school newspaper (it didn't hurt that he was the only kid in his class who knew how to type). Each successive year after that he edited the school rag, culminating in his election as editor in chief of the UC Santa Barbara daily, El Gaucho. From there he went on to publish and edit an underground newspaper, The Isla Vista Argo.

Out in the real world, John has been a copy editor, proofreader, magazine writer, newspaper reporter, English teacher, researcher, Amtrak bartender, limo driver, and union organizer. Today he runs an editing business and teaches Inner Editor classes (see goofbuster.com or e-mail mayburrito@goofbuster.com).

John writes the "Wandering and Wondering" column, occasional travelogues for the Pacifica (Calif.) Tribune. He also contributes to Pacifica Riptide. John's writing is a lively blend of opinionated news, sly humor, and useful trivia. Click here to see recent columns, and return each week to see new postings.
